Extending the Benefits of Reservists Employed by the Town
Councilwoman Berland passes annual legislation to support Town employees who are called to active duty. The Americans Reactivated for Military Service (ARMS) resolution guarantees that the Town of Huntington will supplement military compensation for employees who are called away from their full-time jobs for active duty to avoid hardship for their families.
Honoring Huntington’s Veterans
- Councilwoman Berland partners with the Telephonics Corporation, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Suffolk County Veterans Services Agency and the Town of Huntington Veterans Advisory Board to offer memorial headstone markers to veterans buried in a Town of Huntington cemetery. The marker is free of charge to any resident who completes an application and provides a copy of service documentation.
- Councilwoman Berland publishes the annual “Huntington’s War Heroes: A Guide to Our Town’s Historic Veterans” to honor veterans who have left a lasting legacy in our Town; a list of veterans from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Civil War who are buried in the Town of Huntington; a list of all historic cemeteries located in the Town; and an application to include a veteran buried in the Town of Huntington in the next edition of the Huntington’s War Heroes Guide. An application to include a veteran buried in the Town of Huntington in the next edition of the Huntington’s War Heroes Guide is also included.
- Councilwoman Berland co-sponsored legislation that established the “Alternative Veterans Tax Exemption” to financially assist Huntington’s combat and non-combat veterans.
