Down Syndrome Awareness Day in Suffolk County
Co-sponsored an important resolution which celebrates and supports those in our community living with Down Syndrome by designating March 21st of each year as “Down Syndrome Awareness Day” in Suffolk County. (IR 1334-21)
Recognizing Election Workers
To demonstrate our gratitude and appreciation of the tireless and essential work done by election workers, we designated the fourth Tuesday before a General Election as “Election Worker Appreciation Day” in Suffolk County. (IR 1377-21)
Supporting ELIJA Farm CSA
Sponsored legislation to approve funding for the Elija Farm and all the good work they do for the developmentally disabled community. (IR1229-21)
Authored Ban the Box Legislation
Adopted a Local Law to amend chapter 528 to ensure Fair employment Screening in Suffolk County. I authored the “Ban the Box” legislation, which removes the conviction history “check box” from job applications. Job applicants with criminal records will have the opportunity to get their foot in the door and address their criminal history with prospective employers later in the process and employers have the right to investigate the backgrounds of its applicants after an initial interview. Supporting the Coltrane Home
Sponsored legislation to approve funding for the Coltrane Home. The Coltrane Home is a museum and learning and research center in Dix Hills with the ultimate goal of providing an interactive archive of Coltrane’s and other jazz musicians music. (IR 1068-20)
Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month
I sponsored a resolution to officially declare May as “Asthma Allergy Awareness Month” in Suffolk County. Asthma and allergies are among the nation’s most common and costly health conditions, affecting millions of Americans each year. (IR 1317-20)
Know the Difference Asthma Inhaler Poster
I created the “Know the Difference” campaign, requiring stores that contain a pharmacy in Suffolk County to post the “Know the Difference” poster. The poster, developed in conjunction with the Asthma Coalition of Long Island, the Allergy & Asthma Network, the New York State Children’s Environmental Health Centers, the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition and the Suffolk County Department of Health Services displays examples of “rescue” and controller inhalers people know the difference between their inhalers and safely use them. LGBTQ Pride Month in Suffolk County
I sponsored legislation designating June “LGBTQ+ Pride Month” in Suffolk County to honor the County’s diverse LGBTQ+ community and to affirm that everyone has the right to live without fear of prejudice, discrimination, violence or hatred. (IR 1536-20)

Addressing Pay Disparity
The RISE (Restricting Information on Salaries and Earnings) Act prohibits any employer in Suffolk County from requesting or seeking the wage history of a prospective employee during any stage of the interviewing or hiring process. I cosponsored the RISE Act because it aims to address the historic disparity in pay between women, other racial and ethnic minorities and their male counterparts. The resolution passed the Legislature unanimously. (IR 1856-18)
Donations to Local Schools
Brentwood High School’s Science Research Club encourages students to remain involved in STEM studies outside of the classroom. I was happy to sponsor a resolution donating computer equipment to the club to further enable them to provide BHS’s students the resources they need to excel in their scientific pursuits. Dyslexia Awareness Month
The Legislature unanimously approved designating October as “Dyslexia Awareness Month” in Suffolk County. Dyslexia is a condition which causes persons to have difficulty with accurate word recognition, spelling and decoding abilities. As a dyslexic myself, I know the challenges of dyslexia but also know that overcoming adversity and reaching one’s goals is possible with the right support and resources. (IR 1701-18)
Encouraging Philanthropy
My colleagues and I supported an initiative declaring October 26, 2018 as “One Island Giving Day” in Suffolk County to encourage residents to partake in philanthropic endeavors to benefit our fellow Long Islanders. (IR 1669-18)
Donations to a Local Non-Profit
The Legislature approved a donation of County-owned computer equipment to SeniorNet at Family Service League, a non-profit organization that provides Internet and computer education to adults over 55. (IR 1565-18) (IR 1457 -20)
Recognition of Women
I am proud to be one of the 6 women that make up the 18 member Suffolk County Legislature. March 19th was designated a day of celebration of women in public office throughout Suffolk County. (IR 1149-18)
Honoring Italian-Americans
Italian-Americans have and continue to make significant contributions to Suffolk County. That’s why my colleagues and I designated October as “Italian-American Appreciation Month” in Suffolk County. (IR 1858-18)
